What is the purpose of a bonnet insulation pad?

Bonnet insulation pads are designed to shield the underside of the vehicle's bonnet from the high temperatures generated by the engine. This helps to prevent damage to the paintwork and material of the bonnet while also dampening engine noise for a quieter drive.

What are the signs that I need to replace my bonnet insulation pad?

Indicators that a bonnet insulation pad needs replacing include significant wear and tear, such as the material breaking down or coming loose, an increase in engine noise, or signs of heat damage on the bonnet's paintwork.

Will Car Builders bonnet insulation pad fit my vehicle?

Yes, Car Builders' Underbonnet Insulation is designed to fit any vehicle. The versatile nature of this peel-and-stick product allows you to create a custom template to fit any bonnet perfectly. Whether your goal is to cover the entire bonnet or to fill in specific sections, the generously sized sheets can be easily cut to suit your desired design and then applied.

Install Tips and tricks:

  1. Preparation: Begin by measuring the area of your bonnet where the insulation will be applied. Cut the insulation sheet slightly larger than this area, adding an extra 5cm-10cm margin. This extra length accommodates the additional material needed to cover the contours and curves of the bonnet. Ensure the bonnet has been cleaned with a wax and grease remover and that it is free of any surface residue.

  2. Application Start Point: Identify the centre of the bonnet as your starting point. Partially peel back the insulation's backing to expose the adhesive in the middle section only. This approach allows for easier handling and positioning.

  3. Gradual Installation: Affix the exposed adhesive part of the insulation to the centre of the bonnet first. Then, gradually work your way outwards, peeling the backing and rolling the material down with an application roller as you go. Ensure that the product is not stretched but rather fed into concave areas.

  4. Final Trimming: Once the insulation is fully applied, use a sharp blade to trim the excess material at the edges. It’s crucial to cut precisely along the desired boundary while being careful not to damage the bonnet’s paintwork. If any air bubbles are trapped, you can carefully pierce with a blade to release air and then firmly roll down.

Premium Under Bonnet Insulation

Holy Dooly! I used the premium under-bonnet insulation to replace the crappy factory under-bonnet material on my Ford RN F250 and it took acres of the stuff! I also covered the inner guards which are plastic. A little fiddly on some of the tight corners and curves on the guards but overall easy to apply and the finished result looks excellent. Best of all, there is a dramatic reduction in both perceived engine and road noise. I'll be telling anyone who'll listen that they should fit the Car Builders product to their ride.

Great product!

Good product, definitely recommended

Insulation and roller were in the post the day after ordering and were well packaged. Instructional video was worth watching and made installation a little easier than it might have otherwise been. The finished product looks great moulded around the bonnet structure and has reduced the sound level inside the car. I would recommend this product and may even get some more to replace the pretend insulation that came standard on my other car.

Tricky but worth it.

Definitely a two person job on an MGB. Managed to put it on in one piece, under the centre brace!! Tricky job but the video is well worth watching.

old style Troopy revamp

This is a great under bonnet replacement to the falling down mess that was there and couldn't recommend it more, only thing i could ask for is a bigger sized sheet to maybe 1500mm x 1300mm as the 1500mm x 1000mm just wasn't enough to get the front lips of the bonnet, not a problem though as it was more cosmetic than function.

Fantastic - 5 Stars

Very impressed with ease of application and the effect of reducing engine bay noise by this product. I installed this product to cut engine noise down at highway speeds after already installing sound deadener previously. In combination with Stage 4 sound deadening kit, my old tin can Hilux is a totally different car. Pleasure to drive.

Worth every penny

I have used this on 4 under bonnets now and it is an extremely good product for making things look “factory” and professionally finished. I am about to order another roll as I have priced an original for my Commodore and this is also cheaper. I also use the floor sound deadening foam and am super impressed. You need to take time and check is in place because once you have placed it then it’s there for good. The glue sticks instantly and does not let go. I recommend this to anyone who is willing to watch the video on line to how to fit it. I watched the expert and it made the finished job so much better.

Under Bonnet Insulation

I selected this product to insulate the bonnet of my Nissan Patrol after an upgrade to a supercharger installation. The bonnet required significant structural modification to fit, hence selecting a suitable sound and thermal insulation mat looked like a challenge until I found this product from Car Builders. The material arrived well packaged and I bought the roller as well - highly recommend it. The insulation is VERY tough, and requires sharp scissors and a stanley knife. Working off a template made the task easier. Once the shape is confirmed, simply peel the adhesive cover off, place into position and then using the roller work it into the shape of the bonnet - easy easy work, no wrinkles, and a totally professional looking outcome. I am considering it for a headliner as well, and a number of my mates who have seen the job are looking to do the same as I have done. Highly recommended.
